As one of the nation’s four Historically Black medical schools, Morehouse School of Medicine is a leader in the creation and advancement of health equity. And as one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems with a mission of social justice and service to the vulnerable, CommonSpirit Health provides national access to a broad range of care settings that care for the underserved.
Together, CommonSpirit and Morehouse School of Medicine have invested more than $115 million to seed a ten-year national model of change agency that will transform health equity through five strategic initiatives.
Since 1975, Morehouse School of Medicine has led the nation in educating and graduating the health care leaders the world needs most — those committed to primary care and to underserved communities. Indeed, about 72 percent of Morehouse learners commit to serving the vulnerable following graduation, compared to 35 percent of students nationally.
Each Morehouse School of Medicine graduate will serve over 45,000 patients over the course of a career. Investment in Morehouse education and training programs represents an investment in culturally responsive and equitable health care for communities in greatest need.
CommonSpirit Health is one of America’s largest nonprofit health systems with 150,000 employees, 140 hospitals, and more than 1,000 care sites in 21 states from coast to coast. Formed in 2019 through the combination of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health, CommonSpirit is one of the leading health care providers for underserved communities.
As CommonSpirit Health, we make the healing presence of God known in our world by improving the health of the people we serve, especially those who are vulnerable, while we advance social justice for all.
